Noosa beach car park restricted to drop-off-only zone during holidays

From 20 December 2024 to 6 January 2025, the car park at the popular tourist site will be restricted to a two-lane drop-off zone as the local council aims to ease traffic congestion.

A Queensland tourist hotspot will see temporary changes over the holiday period, with the Main Beach Reserve car park next to the Noosa Beach Surf Club converted to a two-lane drop-off zone between 20 December 2024 and 6 January 2025.

According to a report by the local newspaper Sunshine Coast News,  Noosa’s local council decided to restrict car parking access next to the popular tourist site amid traffic concerns during the end-of-year holiday period.

 “More than 14,000 vehicles a day enter the Hastings Street precinct during peak holiday periods, which creates major problems with traffic congestion in the area,” Shaun Walsh, Noosa Council’s acting director of infrastructure, told Sunshine Coast News.

“We’ve made some changes aimed at improving traffic flow in the Hastings Street precinct and providing beachgoers with the ability to drop off their gear during the busy period.

“Traffic marshals will operate in the drop-off zone between 6:30am and 5:30pm to assist motorists and visitors coming in and out of this area,” Walsh added.

Further, Noosa Council said additional parking spaces on the main beach reserve will be available for accessible parking, along with lifeguards and motorcycles.

Of note, the local authority said the entire car park will be closed on 31 December 2024 to support Queensland Police and emergency services operations.
