Video: Porsche 911 GT2 RS destroyed after failed overtake attempt

The exotic sports car once worth north of $650,000 was destroyed after the driver collided with a truck on a Melbourne freeway.

A Porsche 911 GT2 RS has met a tragic fate after its driver was caught on video attempting to overtake a truck on a Melbourne off-ramp and subsequently failing, resulting in the exotic sports car – worth more than $650,000 when new – crashing heavily.

The incident occurred near Todd Road in Port Melbourne – approximately 5.2km south of Melbourne’s Central Business District.

The dashcam footage – recorded on 14 June 2024 – was posted to Dashcam Australia’s Facebook page and depicted the sports car driver speeding to overtake the truck carrying a shipping container.

In its haste, the motorist can be seen losing control of the Porsche 911 and colliding with the side of the truck before the car spun and eventually came to a stop on a patch of grass.

Following the incident, the truck driver immediately stopped the vehicle while a police vehicle arrived on scene a couple of seconds later.

However, police have confirmed there were no injuries sustained in the incident.

“Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision,” a Victoria Police spokesperson told Drive.

Authorities are urging anyone with relevant information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or visit the Crime Stoppers website here.
