2 Fast, cops Furious: Street racers clocked at over 200km/h on Hume Highway

Police in Sydney spotted two young drivers hitting speeds more than 100km/h over the limit, but it wasn’t long before they got booked.

Highway Patrol police have clocked a pair of young drivers trying to carry out their own Fast and Furiousinspired street race at more than 200km/h in Sydney’s south-west.

The two men, aged 22 and 24 years-old, were spotted by police along the Hume Highway at Woodbine going at more than 100km/h over the speed limit.

The two high-performance vehicles, which appear to be a BMW M4 and a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI Tommi Makinen Edition, were seen by Macarthur police officers travelling side-by-side along the southbound carriageway in a 110km/h zone.

Police recorded a top speed of 212km/h using a handheld laser gun at around 10:30pm on Monday night, before stopping them at the Narellan Road exit shortly after.

Both men returned negative breath and drug tests, but were charged with taking part in a street race, driving at a speed dangerous to the public, and exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h.

They had their licenses suspended and will appear in Campbelltown Local Court on 9 July.
