2026 Hyundai Palisade delivery pause yet to be lifted in Australia, as software update begins rolling out

The first recall notice to address concerns about the Hyundai Palisade’s power-folding rear seats has been issued, with an interim software update now available in Australia.

An interim software update to address safety concerns about the power-folding rear seats in the 2026 Hyundai Palisade is now rolling out over-the-air in Australia – or alternatively at the dealership – ahead of a planned permanent fix, as customer deliveries remain on pause.

Hyundai Australia has confirmed a software update is now available for 2242 examples of the new-generation ‘LX3’ 2026 Palisade Calligraphy, addressing a “software issue” that the second and third-row electric seat-folding mechanism could fail to detect an object while in operation.

The Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, Sport and the Arts has this week issued a formal recall notice.

However, Drive understands this is not the planned permanent fix, which is expected to be detailed in the coming weeks.

A Hyundai Australia spokesperson told Drive the ongoing delivery pause on new Palisade vehicles – issued in the days after the death of a two-year-old child in the US on 7 March 2026 – will remain in place until the planned permanent fix has been completed.

The details of the planned permanent fix are yet to be confirmed, including whether it will involve additional software changes, require hardware changes, or a combination of both.

Published this week, the recall notice says: “Due to a software issue, the second and third-row electric seat-folding mechanism may fail to detect an occupant or object and may not stop the folding function when activated.

“A folding seat that cannot detect an occupant increases the risk of causing serious injury or death to any occupant in or around the folding seat during activation of walk-in and power-folding seat features of the vehicle.”

Hyundai Australia advises it will contact affected owners in writing to ask them to schedule an appointment with their nearest dealer “as soon as possible”, or if they are registered for Bluelink, to apply the software update over-the-air, free of charge.
