2025 Tesla Model Y ‘Juniper’ update seemingly leaked with key design change
The much-anticipated styling update for the world’s best-selling new car last year – the Tesla Model Y electric SUV – appears to have been caught in leaked photos.
Photos claimed to show the upcoming ‘facelift’ for the 2025 Tesla Model Y electric SUV with its disguise lifted have surfaced online, ahead of an expected introduction next year.
Two images posted on social media website Reddit by user Abomb1997 claim to show the rear end and interior of the updated Model Y, codenamed ‘Juniper’.
The authenticity of the images has not been verified, but if accurate, the images reveal the Model Y will not directly mirror the changes applied to the facelifted Model 3 ‘Highland’ sedan launched last year.

Visible in the images is a full-width tail-light bar – which would make it the second Tesla with the design feature, after the Cybertruck – as part of a new tailgate which could move the number plate to the lower bumper.
Inside, there is now an ambient light strip running across part of the door panel – similar, but not identical to the Model 3 – plus a new dashboard with Model 3-like trim, a new door handle also akin to the Model Y’s sedan sibling, and perforated front seats.
Although not seen here, it is likely the SUV will follow the sedan in deleting the steering column stalks, with the indicators moved to the steering wheel, and gear selector to the touchscreen.
Earlier spy photos have shown the Model Y facelift with significant camouflage over its front and rear, which would suggest slimmer headlights and new bumpers akin to the Model 3.
The vehicle in the leaked images is black, just like the prototype spotted testing (above) earlier this month.
Overseas reports in 2023 claimed the updated Model Y could enter production in October 2024, but Tesla CEO Elon Musk has confirmed a facelifted Model Y is not planned to launch this year, leaving next year as the soonest launch window.
Other changes for the updated Model Y may include new wheel designs, and a larger and brighter touchscreen.
