2025 Polestar 3 electric SUV adds longer-range model as deliveries begin overseas

The first SUV from Volvo electric-car off-shoot Polestar has added a more affordable and longer-range model due to open for orders in Australia later this year.

The 2025 Polestar 3 electric SUV line-up has added an entry-level single-motor model – with a longer driving range – as the first dual-motor examples roll off showroom floors overseas.

Due to open for orders in Australia later this year, the Polestar 3 Long Range Single Motor carries a €7000 ($AU11,000) lower price in Europe.

Deliveries of the dual-motor version are due to commence in Australia imminently. The first examples have been handed over to Polestar customers in Europe in recent days.

The single-motor version is powered by a 220kW/490Nm dual electric motor on the rear axle for a 7.8-second 0-100km/h acceleration time, fed by the same 111kWh battery as more expensive versions, now capable of a claimed 650km on a charge in European WLTP testing.

For context, the Long Range Dual Motor adds an electric motor on the front axle for 360kW/840Nm combined – and 0-100km/h in 5.0 seconds – but it claims a WLTP driving range of 631km.

All models can charge from 10 to 80 per cent in a claimed 30 minutes at up to 250kW DC.

The Long Range Single Motor has been introduced with Model Year 2025 (MY25) production, which has seen equipment packs standard on MY24 become extra-cost options – as previously reported by Drive.

In Australia, the entry price into the dual-motor line-up has risen by about $1200 – but ticking option boxes on the MY25 vehicle to match the equipment list of MY24 variants means the price rise for an equivalent vehicle is close to $20,000.

The latest price for the Polestar 3 Long Range Dual Motor in Australia is $131,574 plus on-road costs for MY24 production, or $132,720 for MY25.
