2024 Cupra Formentor VZe Tribe Edition, Leon V Tribe Edition priced for Australia
Spanish car brand Cupra has added two special editions to its line-up with new design details – and in one case, a lower price than the regular model.
Two new limited editions have joined the Cupra line-up in Australia based on the Formentor SUV and Leon hatchback, which are due for major facelifts this time next year.
The 2024 Cupra Formentor VZe Tribe Edition and 2024 Cupra Leon V Tribe Edition introduce visual changes and extra features to Cupra’s plug-in hybrid SUV, and base-model small hatchback.
Only 150 examples of the Leon V Tribe Edition will be offered – with deliveries due from early June 2024 – while the Formentor VZe Tribe Edition is limited to 300 cars, on sale today (1 May 2024) and in showrooms from early July.
The Leon V Tribe Edition is priced from $47,888 drive-away – $1302 cheaper than the regular Leon V – and adds copper accents for the 18-inch wheels (rather than silver), a black rear spoiler extension, and dark aluminium-finish side skirts.
Inside, it gains Petrol Blue nappa leather seat and upper dashboard upholstery – typically exclusive to the flagship VZx – plus heated front seats, a power-adjustable driver’s seat with memory, nine-speaker Beats premium sound system, and dark alloy pedals.
Heated front seats, the power-adjustable driver’s seat, and Beats stereo are typically part of a $2550 option pack for the Leon V, meaning the Tribe Edition is effectively $3852 cheaper.
There are no changes to the 140kW/320Nm 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, and features shared with the regular model include a 12-inch touchscreen, LED headlights, 10.25-inch instrument display, tri-zone climate control and a suite of safety features.
Meanwhile, the Formentor VZe Tribe Edition is priced from $67,990 plus on-road costs – $3000 more than the regular VZe plug-in hybrid – or between $70,990 and $73,990 drive-away, also a $3000 premium, depending on where the vehicle is registered.
It adds the flagship Formentor VZx variant’s wheels – a copper-accented version of the standard VZe’s 19-inch silver and black alloy – on the outside.
Inside, it gains Petrol Blue nappa leather seat and upper dashboard upholstery – again exclusive to the VZx – plus heated front seats, a power-adjustable driver’s seat with memory, nine-speaker Beats audio, 360-degree camera, and memory for the side mirrors.
It is the first time the Beats sound system has been available on the VZe in Australia.
On the regular version, black nappa leather seats, heated front seats, a power-adjustable driver’s seat with memory, 360-degree camera, and memory for the side mirrors form part of a $2800 option pack – cancelling out most of the Tribe Edition’s price premium.
There are no changes to the Formentor VZe’s mechanicals, which include a 110kW/250Nm 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine, 80kW electric motor and 12.8kWh battery pack for 180kW/400Nm combined, 0-100km/h in 7.0 seconds, and a 50km claimed electric-only driving range.
Cupra hopes the Formentor VZe Tribe Edition will be attractive to buyers on a novated lease, who can take advantage of an exemption from Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) on plug-in hybrids under the Luxury Car Tax threshold of $89,332 until 1 April 2025.
The Volkswagen-owned company says the VZe has become the top-selling Formentor variant so far this year.
