2021 Mercedes-AMG GLB35 review

A medium-sized, performance-oriented, seven-seat SUV is a niche carved with a toothpick. However, meet the sugar cube – my endearing term for the sweet and boxy 2021 Mercedes-AMG GLB35. Even with all those traits, I can't imagine punters flocking to stores adorned with the three-pointed star for one. However, I do imagine many walk out having bought one – after being walked up from a GLA or sideward from a GLC.

2021 Mazda MX-30 Hybrid review

The 2021 Mazda MX-30 Hybrid is an interesting and important entrant in what is now a crowded space globally. Interesting, in that we expected the electric version to arrive either ahead of the hybrid or at least at the same time. 2021 Renault Captur review

Despite delays arriving in Australia, the 2021 Renault Captur has finally landed, and first impressions suggest it has been worth the wait. The Mach 1 nameplate was a success, and Ford offered the variant in the second-, fourth- and fifth-generation Mustang, with each model adding its own design flair. But all that was a very long time ago.

2021 Toyota Yaris Cross GXL hybrid review

The slower you go, the less fuel you use. The faster you go, the more inefficient a 2021 Toyota Yaris Cross GXL hybrid becomes. Seems odd, but it's true. As you're aware, internal combustion cars use more fuel in traffic. Stop-start engine technology helps somewhat, but the constant tasking of acceleration – from slow speeds – makes them uneconomical. The exact opposite happens with a Yaris Cross hybrid, which went a bit against my initial assumptions.

2021 Fiat Ducato MWB review

Within the world of commercial vehicles, the adoption of smooth, slick automatic transmissions hasn’t always kept pace with the rest of the market. 2021 Toyota GR Supra GTS

When I think Toyota Supra, I’m immediately taken back to the chase scene in the Fast and the Furious – for those who haven’t seen it, this particular model is a bright orange 1994 Supra Mark IV. I jest. You've all seen the movie. And that was a very different Supra, too. What is undoubtedly now an iconic nameplate then has changed in 2021. In fact, we're led to believe that the new Supra has the heart of a Toyota but the soul of a BMW. In theory, that's no bad thing is it?

2021 Mercedes-AMG GLE63 S 4Matic+ review

There’s excess, and then there’s the 2021 Mercedes-AMG GLE63 S 4Matic+ – a full-size SUV that quite simply has no right to be as fast and agile as it is in the real world. In either wagon or coupe bodies, if you don't mind. The saying ‘you can have your cake and eat it too’ has never made any sense to me to be honest, but in the case of the GLE63 it seems to be bang on the money.

2021 Peugeot 3008 review

Peugeot wants to be considered a mainstream premium brand in Australia. And if the face lifted Peugeot 3008 is anything to go by, the French carmaker is going about it the right way. 2021 BMW 520i LCI review

At first glance, there may not be a whole lot to set the 2021 BMW 520i apart from its immediate predecessor. This version carries BMW’s LCI, or ‘Life Cycle Impulse’, tag – extravagant branding for what equates to a midlife freshen-up. There are no changes to the sheet metal, but lights, bumpers and grille get a new look. The squared-off daytime running light signatures are the easiest to spot, though everything else looks typically BMW enough to not stand out too much.

2021 Land Rover Discovery P360 R-Dynamic review

Sorry to be cruel, but this generation of Discovery has long felt like Land Rover’s piggy in the middle. That was true of the design of the visually pudgy three-row when it was launched in 2017. But more recently it’s become an equally appropriate description of the Disco’s squeezed place in the model line-up: between the rugged utility of the new Defender, and the blingier bling and dynamic excitement of the senior Range Rovers.

The legendary Lamborghini Countach turns 50

Few names evoke the same passion and awe as ‘Countach’ – even the name itself is a Piedmontese slang word that illustrates shock and surprise or wonderment. The Lamborghini Countach was a supercar that left an indelible mark on the automotive landscape one that is as strong now as it was decades ago.

Chieftain Extreme is the Classic Range Rover of your dreams

The vehicle that arguably kicked off the luxury SUV craze of recent decades, the Classic Range Rover, has developed somewhat of a cult following thanks to its comfort, off-road capability, and quintessential British design. Its desirability has risen in modern-classic circles to the point where good examples are fetching as much as $50,000 – with many Australian-delivered vehicles now being sent back to the UK, due to a lack of rust-inducing salted roads here.

A quick guide to vehicle coatings.

Australia has one of the highest ultraviolet (UV) indexes in the world. Overexposure to high levels of UV is dangerous – be it to humans, natural materials, and even man-made finishes like your vehicle's paint. Modern surface technology has come a long way in recent years, especially in terms of protective coatings. Like the development of sunscreen, clever boffins in laboratories around the world have created a similar product for painted surfaces.

2021 Aston Martin DBX review

Honesty is the best policy. This philosophy becomes even more important when you begin pushing your brand into new territory. Or in the case of Aston Martin, controversial territory. Judging by the comments on CarAdvice's numerous Aston Martin DBX stories, and gauging anecdotal feedback from during my time with it, many have reservations. Future Aston Martin owners or not, the temperature of the room appears cold.

If you’ve ever wanted a Ferrari four-door sedan, then you’ve been fresh out of luck, with the Prancing Horse focusing all its energies on coupes and grand tourers. Luckily, Maserati has you covered with Ferrari V8 power under the bonnet of its range of Quattroporte sedans since the introduction of the fifth generation in 2003.

Enjoy them – just not too much, okay?

2021 Porsche 911 Turbo S Cabriolet review

Few cars would seem more counterintuitive than the 2021 Porsche 911 Turbo S Cabriolet – a brutally fast sports car that allows the discerning driver to take their top off. Does anyone need a convertible at this end of the performance spectrum? No. Does that matter? Almost certainly not. The trump card that the Cabriolet plays is the fact that you really lose nothing by offering a convertible option.

2021 Hyundai Kona Elite review

I can’t make up my mind. Does the new 2021 Hyundai Kona look like some kind of cartoon whale? Or, is the connection just coming from the Surfy Blue tone our Kona Elite is coloured in? I’m not sure. Coming from a segment where interesting design is a common theme, the new 2021 Kona does a solid job of setting itself apart from the previous generation. The same combination of eyebrows and headlights persists up front, but it’s now a bit more of a caricature – cartoonish and cute.

2021 Lexus ES300h Luxury review

The 2021 Lexus ES300h Luxury is, somewhat confusingly, the entry point to the range. That’s despite the term ‘Luxury’ in the nameplate. Regardless of how Lexus works its naming conventions, though, the ES platform is a compelling alternative to the established Euros with a mix of build quality and value.

Project Cars: 1966 Chevrolet C10 Pickup – Update

Things have been ticking along smoothly at United Speed Shop with our 1966 Chevrolet C10. As revealed in our introduction, the plan all along was a seriously modernised chassis, proper suspension and steering, a power-worthy 9-inch-style diff (with a TruTrac centre and billet axles as it turns out) and an LS3/6L80e combination. That’s before we get to the rust repair, RHD conversion wiring, exhaust, fuel tank. Plenty of work to be done…

The 10 quickest cars for sale in Australia in 2021

As it turns out, identifying the quickest cars in Australia for 2021 is not an easy feat. Not only do they need to be available locally, they also need to meet our criterion of completing the 0-100km/h sprint in under three seconds. You may be expecting to see brands such as BMW, Audi and Mercedes, but interestingly, they don't make the cut. Audi's R8 Performance misses out, clocking a time of 3.3 seconds, while the BMW M8 and Mercedes-Benz AMG GT 63 S both get there in 3.2 seconds.

2021 Mercedes-AMG C63 S Coupe Aero Edition 63 review

The limited-edition 2021 Mercedes-AMG C63 S Coupe Aero Edition 63 is an even more obnoxious version of an already brutal performance coupe – and it’s a platform that Aussies love. As you’d expect by the use of the term ‘Aero’ in the name, the limited-edition coupe features body addenda that in all probability add to the aero efficiency at speed, but certainly add to the visual appeal even when it’s going nowhere.
